Brazilian Chestnut, also known as Sucupira, is an extremely hard, dense wood with a tan to brownish-red color. On the Janka Hardness Scale, Brazilian Chestnut ranks at a 3540, but hardness does not mean durability. Due to the tight grain and smooth surface of Brazilian Chestnut, it tends to show scratches more easily than more open grained products such as Oak. Like most other exotics, Brazilian Chestnut is also photosensitive, and will darken with exposure to UV-light (Sunlight). Brazilian Chestnut is less sensitive to light as compared to exotics such as Brazilian Cherry, so it will retain a more brown/tan overall color with some red highlights. |
